As part of the Cultural Foundation project, initiated by the Pidhirtsi Castle Charitable Foundation with the support of the Press, Education, and Culture Section of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, we conducted a survey of several hundred museum and archival institutions in Ukraine.
In particular, we were interested in the issue of digitalization – what percentage of collections have been digitized?
The answers were not surprising: only a handful of museums and archives said that their collections were 100% digitized. In particular, the Kirovohrad Regional Council Museum of Art, Terebovlya Museum-Workshop, Chekhov Memorial House-Museum in Sumy, the State Historical and Cultural Reserve in Lutsk, and the Osmerkin Art-Memorial Museum. Some institutions noted that their exhibits are 30-70% digitized. However, more than half of the respondents – 54% – admitted that they have no digitized collections.
The problem of digitization of museum exhibits and archival documents will be raised at the Art of Victory Forum, which will be held on December 8-9, 2023, in Lviv. Employees of museum and archival institutions, artists, and experts will try to answer the question: what needs to be done to increase the number of digitized collections? We invite you to participate offline and online.
